OAK PARK CALIFORNIA THINGS TO DO
The course of the creek is today maintained as a 1.9 mile long natural linear park.
The creek runs through the heart of Oak Park. The normally peaceful creek can become very rough after heavy rain storms as pictured below.
The County of Ventura and OPUSD installed a unique filtration system in this area in 2009 and 2011, using plant roots, soil and gravel.
The Oak Canyon Dog Park opened on the former site of the archery range in the spring of 2010. On any day you can find many types of breeds of dogs along with local residents. There is a section for smaller dogs and a section for larger dogs.
Hiking and Walking Trails
Oak Park is surrounded by rolling hills of 16,000 acres of protected lands owned by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District and the U.S. National Park Service and 50 miles of public trails throughout the Simi Hills. According to a 2007 environmental impact report, “The Simi Hills are an area of national significance that is uniquely available to and greatly enjoyed by the residents of Oak Park.”
